Note from Bob Bilkie, Memories of a Baseball Nut
A fun-filled night, “The Perfect Game” event turned out to be for most attendees. A real “home run” was the pervasive sentiment.
For longstanding, hard-core, Detroit Tiger’s baseball aficionado’s though, it was magical. From Gater’s story of his “hot dog mishap” , to the five-course gourmet meal, it was a night of legends and laughs.
And now, think about this. The first World Series was played in 1903. That’s just over 100 years and 100 World Series contests. There have been an average of 25 players on a team, which means, for all time, only 2600 players can make the claim they won the October Classic!
And now this. On February 7, 2013, in the Meeting House Grande Ballroom in downtown Plymouth we had 9, count them, 9 living World Series champion players, all in one room, all at one time.
Trust me, that is a rare feat and one that will not oft be repeated.
